Our beloved Dad, Grandpa and friend, Louis Marshall Ericson, was called home unexpectedly on November 24, 2010. He died suddenly in the mountains, with his son and grandson to see him off into the loving arms of his Sweetheart, Barbara.He was born on September 5, 1924 to Louis and Ruth Ericson in Plain City, Utah. His father died when he was young and Dad learned through this hardship and the Great Depression to work hard and take care of his family. He was known for his uncanny ability to fix almost anything and with parts he often concocted himself! Dad served his country during World War II and enlisted with the Navy on May 31, 1944. As Seaman First Class he served aboard the USS California in the Pacific Theatre. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. Dad married his loving wife Barbara Manning on June 9, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple. Their union would travel the world as Dad worked in the Civil Service Automotive and Tank Commands in the U.S., Brazil, Korea and Germany. They were blessed with seven children: Steven (Shellie) Ericson, Louise (Jeff) Jacobs, Diane (Mark) Avery, Marsha Abel, Norene (John) Marvets, and twins Laurie (Kevin) McColm, and Dr. Lamont (Debbie) Ericson. His legacy will be continued by his amazing 23 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, all siblings, his beloved wife, Barbara, his son, Lamont, and son-in-law, Dave Abel. Dad did not meet a car he did not love! He had owned so many over the years we lost count. He was particularly fond of the 1964 Jaguar that he and his youngest son, Lamont restored prior to Lamont's death. He enjoyed planning and planting his garden every year. We all enjoyed the harvest he created each fall and the stories of battling the deer that ate Dad's beloved tomatoes. The deer won most years! Dad loved helping others and often did so without fanfare. He would just drop by, say hi, and bring you some chocolates or a gift from the garden. He served several callings for the church. Since Mom's passing, Dad has been attached to his little dog, Ellie. Dad took her everywhere he went! He loved spending time with his children, grandkids and great-grandkids! The day of his death, he had lunch with his grandkids and stopped by a friends' to drop off small gifts of Thanksgiving. His example of love, courage, strength and wisdom will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Weber County Sheriff's Office, Sergeant Hadley and Deputy Kelly; the EMS serving the night of November 24, 2010; and the Powder Mountain Ski Patrol for their efforts on our behalf. Funeral services for Dad will be held on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alpine 7th Ward Church, 890 North Heritage Hills Drive, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah and prior to the services on Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 am at the church.
