Gilbert Hunt, 86, of Lawrenceville, died Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at United Methodist Village North Campus.

Visitation will be Friday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Funeral services will be Saturday a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in May Chapel Cemetery with military rites.

Mr. Hunt was born October 11, 1924 in Mt Carmel, the son of Henry Franklin and Alta (Buchanan) Hunt. He married Sarah Gibson on February 14, 1948. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2004.

He was an Army veteran, having served during World War II. He worked as a welder and maintenance for Witco Chemical Company from September 1946 until retirement on October 30, 1986. He was a lifetime member of the Moose and Veterans of Foreign Wars #2244. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking as well as camping and being outdoors.

Mr. Hunt is survived by his son, Gib Hunt and his wife, Edie of Lawrenceville; one daughter, Cherrie Leaach and her husband, Richard of Olney; three grandchildrn, Russ Weston and his wife, Tami, and Sabrina and Savanna Hunt; five great-grandchilddren, Tara McBride, Brandon Weston, Ashlyn Weston, Hannah Weston and Logan Michael Stephens; and one great-great-grandchild, Camden Weston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Franklin and Alta Hunt; wife, Sarah Hunt; two brothers, Gale and Elbert; and six sisters, Leona, Wirth, Pearl Ogden, Izola "Rosie" Lynch, Mary Abbott, Opal Rodgers and Jacqueline Forney.
