Matilda M. Becker, Social and Church Worker, Succumbs

Taught in Sunday School at Central Baptist.

Mrs. Matilda M. Becker, prominent social and church worker in this city, died at 1:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon at Springfield Hospital, after a two weeks illness following an operation. She was 39 years old.

Mrs. Becker was born May 1, 1894, at Atwater, and spent the early part of her life near Virden. She was married to Carl H. Becker, secretary of the Springfield Mattress company, on Thanksgiving day in 1917. She had been active in social and church work at Central Baptist church for several years and was superintendent of the cradle roll department for the last four years. She was a member of the In-As-Much circle of King's Daughters and was active in the Parent-Teacher association of DuBois school.

She is survived by her husband, Carl H.; two sons, Robert Warren and Carl Herbert; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Burgess of Virden, Mrs. Charles Stratton of Girard, Mrs. Grace Allen of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Harry H. Rahn of this city; five brothers; Fred W. Hulcher of Girard, Ahler and Adolph of Virden, Elmer of Nilwood and John Hulcher of Curran.

The remains were taken to Bisch Memorial home.

Weddings

Becker-Hulchen - Married, at 8 o'clock Thursday evening, Nov. 29, 1917 at the home of the bride in Virden Ill., Rev. William Belton, pastor of the Baptist church of Virden, officiating, Carl H. Becker 205 1/2 West Adams Street, Springfield, and Miss Matilda Hulchen of Virden.

Mr. Becker is a bookkeeper for the Springfield Mattress company. The bride is a teacher in the public school at Virden.

Miss Harriett Bullough played the wedding march. Miss Carl Beadway sang "O Promise Me" and "I Love You Truly." About fifty guests were present.

After a wedding trip to Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Becker will reside with Mrs. Becker's mother, Mrs. Mary Hulchen.
