A memorial service for Linda Easley Lamberth, 63, of Tyler, will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at Green Acres Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. David O. Dykes officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., one hour prior to service at the church.
A private family burial will be held in Guiceland Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
After a three-year battle with cancer, with her loving husband and son by her side at The Hospice of East Texas, Linda went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 2, 2014. She had fought the good fight and finished the endurance race of life, having kept the faith all the way.
Linda was born on Jan. 30, 1951, in Palestine to Weldon and Gracie Easley during one of the worst ice storms of the century. As an only child, she grew up in a loving Christian home near her grandparents and other family members. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1969, Stephen F. Austin State University with a bachelor's degree in business and English in 1972 and received a master's degree in education from Tyler State College in 1976, (now The University of Texas at Tyler). She then received her master's degree in library science from Sam Houston State University in 1982. Linda also earned several administrative certifications. She began her teaching career at Grapeland High School in 1972.
Linda married Norman Lamberth, of Tyler on July 13, 1974 and worked as a librarian at Dogan Middle School and Robert E. Lee High School. She retired in 2004 from the Tyler ISD as director of Staff Development and Library Services for Tyler Independent School District. She held memberships in several educational associations and was active in library development in Tyler schools, establishing the Instructional Resource Center for teachers and staff in the district and helping establish a teacher/staff training program. Linda also participated in the 2002 Leadership Tyler Program and served on several nonprofit boards in the Tyler area. She retired from TISD after 32 years of educational work. Working with librarians, teachers and staff members on the campuses was her greatest enjoyment during her years with Tyler ISD.
As a young girl, Linda accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was active in various church-related activities in Elkhart and the Baptist Student Union at the colleges she attended. Throughout high school and most of college, she played the piano or organ for church services, revivals, Bible school, funerals and weddings in Elkhart. Linda was an active member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler and especially loved the Boomers Sunday School Class, led by Mary Lynn Thompson. After retiring from school administration, Linda and her family became involved in antiques and co-owned an antique store and had antique booths at several locations. In recent years, antiquing vacations were greatly enjoyed by the family. Linda enjoyed, in addition to antiquing, computer work, reading, traveling, being with her friends and family and church work. Her husband and son were the two joys of her life and they shared many wonderful family times together along with other family members and her friends. Linda loved her family and friends and enjoyed helping others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Weldon and Gracie Trigg Easley, of Elkhart; father-in-law, Dr. I.E. Lamberth, of Tyler; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wallace and Elizabeth Lamberth, of Arlington; and nephew, Christopher Lamberth.
Linda is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Norman W. Lamberth, of Tyler; loving son, James Weldon Lamberth, of Tyler; and sweet mother-in-law, Dorothy Lamberth, of Tyler. She is also survived by her niece, Kristen Lamberth, of Mansfield; nephew, John Lamberth and his wife Leigh, of Arlington, and their son Connor Lamberth, of Arlington; aunts, Lois Morehead, of Palestine, and Irene Easley, of Gorman; and several cousins and other extended family members.
Special appreciation is given to Dr. Arielle Lee and her caring medical staff and to the loving and caring staff at The Hospice of East Texas HomePlace. A special loving thanks to cousins Jo and Betty for their love and extra cared during Linda's illness and another special thanks to one of the most loyal, dedicated and devoted Christian friends a person could ever have, Mary Lynn Thompson.
