Obituary.

Alma Smith was born in Kirksville, Mo., April 17th, 1870, died in Springfield, Mo., December 6, 1909.

She lived in Kirksville during the earlier years of her life, and was here married to Mr. J. B. Dodson, December 9, 1892. Fourteen years ago her husband and she moved to Springfield, Missouri, where her home had been until her death.

While a young woman she united by profession of faith with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she remained a faithful and devoted member until the day of her death. Much of the time being a member of the choir, and one of those earnest Christians upon whom the pastor felt at liberty to call for any service he might want performed.

Mrs. Dodson was a very gifted woman; possessing unusual gifts as a musician. She was a prominent member of the leading musical club of Springfield, Missouri. She also studied law, and creditably passed the examination required for admittance to the Greene county bar. She was very popular with her friends, and greatly beloved by those who knew her intimately. She was well known in Kirksville, having lived here the greater part of her life, and leaves a great many friends who sincerely mourn their loss in her decease.

A funeral service was conducted in Springfield, by the Rev. J. W. Stewart, who was her pastor, and a short service was held at the home of Mrs. J. I. Fowler, her sister, Thursday afternoon, by the Rev. W. C. Templeton, where notwithstanding the intense cold, a large number of friends gathered to pay tribute of love and respect to the departed.

There remains to mourn their loss the husband, Mr. J. B. Dodson, one sister, Mrs. J. I. Fowler, and an adopted brother, besides a large number of the older citizens who knew her intimately when she was a resident of the city. Our sincere sympathy goes out to these sorrowing ones, and we pray that they may be sustained by that friend who sticketh closer than a brother. The interment was in Forest Park cemetery. W. C. T.
