Pearson, John A.Died September 5, 1938, Alton, Indiana. Alton - John A., son of Martin Richard and Juan Fernadz Byrd Pearson, was born near Alton, May 13, 1866, and died September 5, 1938, at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 22 days. On October 16, 1888, he married Mary Helen Morgan, who departed this life September, 1906. Mr Pearson was an enthusiastic member of Alton I.O.O.F. Lodge, No. 697, and was the last of its charter members. He was also a charter member of Schoen Valley Rebekah lodge and did much to help maintain its charter. Mr Pearson had been in ill health for several years, and during the 1937 flood exposure which his health could not combat, brought on a more serious breakdown, yet regardless of all this during the summer of 1937 he contracted and superintended the building of three Red Cross houses. Mr Pearson lived his lessons of Odd Fellowship and though in ill health during the flood, was quick to hasten to any one in distress or in need of a lift in any way, and surely practicing such lessons and performing such duties all through his life has left a name honored and beloved and a history more precious in the sight of Him above than that of chieftain, warrior or sage. Although a member of no church, a few days before his death he expressed his trust in his Lord and was willing to be placed in his Saviours care. He leaves one daughter and two sons, Mrs Amzel M. Seaton, of Beechwood; John W. address unknown, and Hubert A., of Alton; seven grandchildren, and a cousin, Mrs Mary Pearson, with whom he had made his home for several years; two sisters and four brothers, Mrs Fannie Walker, of Pineville, Ky.; Mrs Sallie Harp, of Alton; Louis Pearson, of Decatur, Ala.; Henry C. Pearson, of Paducah, Ky.; Richard Pearson, of Joppa, Ill, and Willis Pearson, of Marengo, besides nieces, nephews and cousins. Prayer was held at the home and funeral services were conducted by the Rev Lawrence Miley at the Riddle cemetery, Wednesday afternoon, and the body was laid to rest under the auspices of Alton I.O.O.F. lodge No. 697.
