William Joseph "Bill" Anderson, 85, of Clinton died Saturday May 1, 2010 at Mercy Living Center South. A Rose Croix services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at First Congregational Church, followed by funeral services. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Private burial will be at Springdale Cemetery.
Bill was raised in Sikeston, MO. He graduated from Illinois College. He served in the United States Army during WWII, serving in Africa, Germany and France. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in direct support of combat operations. Bill married Lois Ann Kirchhoff July 22, 1949 in Maquoketa, IA.
In 1953, Bill moved to Clinton and worked as manager of W.G. Block ready Mix for many years. He worked as a realtor-broker with J.Q. Jefferies for 34 retiring at age 80 as owner.
Bill's family was his priority. He loved talking with people, and was hard-pressed to find a negative comment to make about anyone. Bill loved children, and they always knew his pockets held their candy supply.
He was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club and First Congregational Church. He served for years on the church choir and taught Sunday school. He was a former regular blood donor and a member of the Clinton Humane Society. He loved his volunteer positions as court attendant for the Clinton County Court House and mentor/library helper at Jefferson School.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Ann (San) Anderson; daughter, Jill (Dennis) Roloff of Cedar Rapids; son, David (Mary) Anderson of Bettendorf and grandchildren, Jessica Roloff of Cedar Rapids and Lauren and Kevin Anderson of Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Marshall of Sikeston, MO.
The family appreciates the care and love shown to Bill this past year by friends and healthcare staff at Mercy Hospital and his chemotherapy team at Medical Associates.
