Burial Was Monday in Forest Lawn
NORFOLK, Sept. 24.
Funeral services for Roland Thorp, 58, lawyer who died Saturday afternoon at a Norfolk hospital, were held at noon Monday in the chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
A native of Boydton, he had lived in this section for the past 45 years and made his home at the time of his death at Virginia Beach. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruth Cunningham Thorp. He was the son of the late Robert Taylor Thorp and Mrs. Lucy Brant Thorp.
Thorp was a graduate of the Norfolk Academy class of 1905, and received an L.L.B. degree from the University of Virginia in 1909. During the World War I, he saw action in France as a captain with the 116th Infantry Regiment of the Twenty-Ninth Division.
After graduation, Thorp practiced law here with his father, who was referee in bankruptcy, until his father's retirement in 1933. Thorp was commissioner in chancery for the Circuit Court and assistant trial justice for Princess Anne County and was known among lawyers here as an authority on bankruptcy.
