JOSEPH GAGNON
--------

Joseph A.(Alphonse) Gagnon, 97, 305-8th Ave NE, Minot, died Thursday in a Minot nursing home. His funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m.in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, with burial in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

The rosary will be recited Sunday at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Visitation is there today from noon to 5 p.m., Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to noon.

He was born Nov. 6,1889, at Cashel, a son of Theotime and Christine Gagnon. He was reared in the Grafton area, and on Sept.18, 1917, he enlisted in the Army. He served during World War I and was stationed in France. He earned four battle stars. Following hiss discharge Nov.15, 1919, he returned to Grafton and was employed in his father's grocery store.

He married Mary M. Brosnahan Oct.12, 1921, in St. Paul Minn. They moved to Bismarck in 1924 and to Minot in 1930. He operated the Valley Street Grocery in Minot before going to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1942. He retired in 1955, and they moved to St Louis Park, Minn. His wife died Jan.24, 1963. In 1974 he returned to Minot. He lived at the Trinity Homes in Minot since 1983.

He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and St. John's Church in Minot, the Elks Lodge at Hopkins where he was named Elk of the Year 1971, a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, World War I Veterans and the American Legion. Survivors: daughters, Catherine Weeks and Mary Montgomery, both Minot; Margaret Cotter, Minneapolis; 37 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Gallagher, San Diego.

Son of Theotime "TA" and Christine Sabourin Gagnon. His siblings include Eugene & Marie and half-siblings Wilfrid, Angelina, Ernestine, Theresa, Francis and Marguerite. Married to Mary Brosnahan on October 12, 1921.

Alphonse is the brother of my grandmother Marie Gagnon Moore
