Jesse Caleb Cretcher, 65, a one-time Texas A&M football star and a Southwestern Conference champion fullback of 1911, died Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Santa Fe hospital in Temple.
Cretcher was a civil engineer for Santa Fe Railways. He came to Galveston in May, 1916 and resided at 2412 33rd street.
He was born Feb. 2, 1886 in Milford, Texas. He played football for the Carlyle Military Academy as well as Texas A&M where he was hailed one of the school's sports leaders. He was also a member of the Ross Volunteers at A&M.
Mr. Cretcher was affiliated with Tucker Loge 297 AF&AM as well as with the Scottish Rite Bodies.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the drawing room of J. Levy & Bro. funeral home, with the Rev. Douglas J. Verdine, pastor of the Central Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Galveston Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be W. T. Donoho, H. C. Lockett, A. W. Jackson, A. B. Kelly, Sam Corey and S. W. Wittig.
