Kathleen was born to Samuel Fink and Mary Angeline (Whetzel)Fink.
She had 3 older siblings, Anna Ruth and Arnold William. And Bessie Alice -(who was put in foster care). Her mother died 2 days after her birth. At 8 months old she was adopted by William and Evelyn (Williams) Peyton. It has been assumed by the family that the Peyton's somehow knew the Fink family.
For a time the family lived in Luke, Allegany County, Maryland. William (Bill) Peyton's half brother George (Ed) Edward Fields lived with them for awhile before moving to Akron, Ohio.
Evelyn had a baby girl, whom they named Evelyn. At some point Bill and Evelyn divorced, and Evelyn took Kathleen(Katie)and baby Evelyn to Akron, Ohio. Ed Fields and Evelyn were married.
Evelyn gave birth to another girl, named Mary. Sadly Evelyn died in childbirth. Katie was about 12 years old,
and little Evelyn 6, Ed sent them to Maryland to be raised by their Grandmother Leota Williams (Evelyn's mother). Baby Mary was raised by a family in Wadsworth, Ohio.
Katie as a teen learned woman's boxing. As her son would tell the story later. When he was a teenage boy, taller then his mother, he talked back to her one to many times- , before he knew what was happening she gave him a right hook punch, he fell back against the wall and down.
In the mid 1930's Katie Peyton made her way back to Akron, Ohio and reconnected with Ed Fields. They were married and had a son.
During WWII Katie WORKED as a "ROSIE THE RIVETER" at a Ball Bearing Plant in Akron for B52 Bombers.
After her husband died in 1969, Katie decided to live in Senior Housing. There she met Olga Bowes, who would be a
dear friend and companion. They took fishing trips together,
and traveled together. Olga became "adopted" by Katie's family as a "3rd Grandma".
