He joined the civil while still living in Lyme 13 August, 1862 and was assigned to Company H, New Hampshire 11th Infantry Regiment. He left New Hampshire on 2 September, 1862. He was mustered out on 5 March 1863 at David's Island, New York Harbour. It is unclear when or how Pvt Dimick received his disability discharge. The regiment fought at Fredericksburg, Va on 13 December 1862 and did not fight again until 11 Feb 1863. This writer believes he may have been wounded and had infection or infected with disease. He married Margaret A Benard in 1873. They had two children Margaret B Dimick born October 26, 1875 and died on April 2, 1879. They also had a son Chester E. Dimick born in November 6, 1879 was a Captain in the Coast Guard for 39 nine years with various honors. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery with his wife.
