Verneal Caroline Albrecht, 84, of Clifton, IL, formerly of Gilman, IL, died at 1:22 P.M., Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL.

A funeral will be 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 10 at the Zion United Church of Christ in Gilman, IL with the Rev. Robert Blumberg officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. Memorials may be made to the Gilman American Legion Auxiliary Post #499, the Iroquois County Fair, or to the Donor's Choice.

Burial will be in Wenger Cemetery, Gilman, IL.

Verneal was born on January 12, 1926 in Flanagan, IL, the daughter of John H. and Hanna Frieda (Rapp) Wiechmann. She was married to Dean Albrecht on January 26, 1946 in Flanagan, IL. He died on September 30, 2004.

Survivors include one son - Jim (Carol Sue) Albrecht of Onarga, IL, three daughters - Jane (Ray) Kurtenbach of Franklin Grove, IL, Joan (Vance) Schmid of Marion, IL, and Judy Gocken of North Port, FL. Fourteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Two sisters- Lorraine (Earl) Ferguson of Flanagan, IL and Joyce (Gene) Robbins of East Peoria, IL. Four sisters-in-law - Esther Eastman of Eureka, IL, Deloris Wiechmann, Jeanette Wiechmann, and Frances Albrecht all of Flanagan, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two brothers- Victor and Harold Wiechmann.

Her childhood was spent in Flanagan, IL. She was a graduate of Flanagan schools. Verneal and her husband moved from Flanagan to Gilman in 1950.
Verneal was presently residing at Merkle-Knipprath Catholic Home in Clifton, IL.

A homemaker, she had also worked at the Dixie Cafe in Pontiac, IL. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Gilman, IL, where she was active in the Zion Women's Circle. She was also a member of the Gilman American Legion Auxiliary Post #499. For 17 years she served as a 4-H club leader. Verneal was a secretary for the Onarga, Douglas and Danforth Township Drainage Districts for many years. Her hobbies included sewing and embroidering.
