My precious Grandmother...

Mommaw as we called her was a strong God fearing woman. Only a third grade education, Quitting school to help raise her family after her Mother passed. With the help of Poppaw they raised their four sons on the farm.If one of them did wrong she would take them in the back room and pray strong prayers over them,I have heard them say they would rather have had a beating. All her boys turned out to be upstanding citizens of the community.Mommaw worked huge gardens and Poppaw would take vegetables and fruit butter and milk to stores and individuals for sale.
My grandmother was a strongly opinionated woman that believed in helping others only if they were willing to help themselves.

She took care of her beloved Owen when he went blind and as alzheimers took over him. When her younger sister Umbell passed away she seemed to grieve herself to death. She never drove a car but once and she just didn't have the nerves for it. She answered her front door with a shotgun! She was a faithful member of Antioch (Point Mallard Parkway)for as long as she resided in her home. She loved her Children her daughter in laws and grandchildren, brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews. She worked hard all her life but loved even harder. Mary lou (Marelou) said she hoped God would take her Home before any of her kids or grandkids passed,He did She died of a massive stroke 2 months before her grandson Darrell and Six moths before her husband.
I loved spending the night and waking to the smell of biscuits baking.I would help her pack Poppaw's lunch in his silver luunchbox with a boloney &mustard sandwich, and a boiled egg twisted tight in wax paper...
Her sons and daughters made sure she had anything her heart desired.
