Mr. Huggins was a businessman here, having been a partner in the Huggins Brother's Lumber Co. which was founded in 1919.He was a large scale tobacco farmer and cattleman. He also had real estate interest in Hemingway and Johnsonville.
Mr. Huggins was the son of the late William James Timmons and Minnie Pauline Grier Huggins of the Old Johnsonville Community near Hemingway where he was born Jan.9,1897. His great grand parents were cofounders of the Old Johnsonville Methodist Church. Mr. Huggins was a graduate of the last class of Old Johnsonville High School before it consolidated with Johnsonville High School.He was a member at Old Johnsonville Methodist Church and a former member of the official board of the church.
He was married to the former Miss Mary Etta Livingston from Saluda, who had located in the area to teach school.
Surviving in addition to his wife are five sons, Ned Livingston (Mary Dean) Huggins of Johnsonville, William Elmer (Tommie) Huggins of Clemson College, Hugh Lovell Huggins of Clemson College, Kay Norris and Larry Bruce Huggins both at home. Also five sisters, Mrs. J. D. Brown, Sr. of Hemingway, Mrs Boyd Miller, Sr. of Bennettsville,Mrs. Kenneth H. Brown of Hemingway, Mrs Thomas Edgeworth, Sr. of Biltmore, N. J., Mrs. W. W. Gibson, Sr. of Hemingway and four grandchildren as well as a large number of nieces and nephews.
