City Man, 81, Drowns in Mississippi
The body of an elderly St. Cloud man was pulled from the Mississippi River Tuesday.
St. Cloud Police said William Lucius, 81, 1807 3rd St. N., apparently drowned after falling down
the bank into the river late Monday.
Police said their department was notified after noon Tuesday that Lucius was missing.
According to police a witness last saw Lucius on the bank late Monday.
Police investigating the area saw evidence that the man might have fallen into the river. The
Fire Department rescue squad and Murphy Ambulance Service rescue equipment were called
and located the body just off the shore in approximately a half hour.
Authorities said the body was discovered in 10 feet of water near the Donovan Sausage Plant
on 5th Ave. N.
Police said all information concerning the incident has been turned over to the Stearns County
Coroner to determine cause and time of death.
Lucius is survived by one son, Fred, two daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Norma) Robak and Mrs.
LaVern - (Kathryn) Manthey, both of St. Cloud; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
His wife Ruth, son Charles and daughter Helen proceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday from St. John Cantius Church with burial in Calvary
Cemetery.
