Linda died at home with her family by her side after a two-year battle with metastatic colon cancer. She was 58. Linda Laird grew up in Winnetka, Ill., and graduated from New Trier East High School. She received a degree in marketing after attending Stephens College and the University of Arizona, where she met her future husband, Brian Faino. Linda and Brian lived in San Francisco after college. Linda loved the city and made many lifelong friends there. They moved to Portland in 1984 and settled in the Irvington neighborhood, where they raised their two sons in an active and close community. Linda beautifully managed her home, family, and social calendar while having a busy career in the medical insurance field. Her illness forced her to retire in 2008. People were drawn to her friendly, giving personality, and she maintained a large circle of friends dating back to her grade school years. Volunteering was very important to Linda no matter how busy she was. The Children's Cancer Society and Portland Public Schools are just a few of the causes to which she gave time. Linda's survivors include her husband of 28 years, Brian; sons, Quinn and Dylan; mother, Janet Rink; sister, Holly Troeger; brother-in-law, Rod Faino and his wife, Carol; Dennis and Roxanne George; and many dear friends too numerous to mention. She was predeceased by her father, Charles Laird; and brother, Charles "Chip" Laird. Her Siamese cat, Arthur, was of great comfort to her during her illness. A celebration of Linda's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please give to your favorite charity. Goodbye, Linda, we love you and already miss you so much.
