Harry H. Thompson Jr., prominent Lyons civic and business leader and sports enthusiast died August 12, 1996 in Meadows Regional Medical Center.


The 67 year old owner and operator of WBBT/WYLU Radio Stations in Lyons, Ga., was known as the "Voice of the Lyons Bulldogs," having announced the local team's football games for more than 30 years. he was born in Richmond County but had lived in Lyons most of his life where he was a full-time technician in the National Guard for 36 years holding the rank of CW04. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech and was responsible for the establishment of the National Guard Armory in Lyons, Ga. Mr Thompson was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lyons.


Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Yuvawn NeeSmith Thompson, Lyons; four sons, Lt. Col. Harry H. Thompson III, Washington, D.C., Michael Pughsley Thompson, Vidalia, Glenn Howard Thompson, Roswell, Ga., and Blake Wendell Thompson, Lyons; His mother, Grace Pughsley Thompson, Vidalia, five grandchildren, Mallory Lynn and Melissa Kay Thompson, Washington D.C., Benjamin Scott Thompson, Roswell, Ga., Jacob Blake Thompson,Lyons, McKenzie Lee Thompson, Vidalia; two sisters, Evelyn Throp, Charlotte, N.C., and Barbara Meadows, St. Simons Island, Ga., and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services for Mr. Thompson were held Wednesday, August 14,1996 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lyons First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Andy Miles officiating. Burial followed in the Lyons City Cemetery with full military honors.


Jones-Stewart Funeral Home, Lyons was in charge of arrangements.
