DETTLINGER, CHESTER A. JR., 75, of Loganville, GA, died November 19, 2010. The cause was cancer, his family said. Mr. Dettlinger was a native of Louisville, KY, and moved to the Atlanta area in August 1973. He attended Flaget High School, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. In Atlanta, he entered law school at the age of 53 and passed the bar on the first try. He went on to practice law in Gwinnett and surrounding counties. In 1983 he wrote, with the late Jeff Prugh, a book entitled "The List," the subject of which was known as "the Atlanta child murders." He was a lecturer and teacher in the Georgia University System. Mr. Dettlinger was predeceased by his parents, Margaret Ellen and Chester A. Dettlinger, Sr.; and his brother, Daniel Patrick Dettlinger. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Eva; his son, Chip Dettlinger; his daughters, Diana K. Little, Tracy E. Ansley, Laura K. McConkey and Michelle Smith; and 12 grandchildren. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Georgia 404- 355-7627.
