ANSON (RNS) – Mrs. John H. (Rachel) Shellman, 103, of Anson, died at 7:15 p.m. Monday in Valley View Nursing Home, where she had lived since Nov. 29, 1971. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Bethsaida Baptist Church.

The Rev. William Jackson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, directed by Lawrence Funeral Home.

Born May 12, 1873, at Pittsburg in Camp County, she married J.H. Shellman Nov. 1893. She and her late husband came to West Texas in 1920. After spending a year in Lamesa, they came to Jones County in 1921. They farmed for the late Arthur Dean a number of years before moving into Anson. Mr. Shellman died May 27, 1960.

She and her husband helped organize the Bethsaida Baptist Church in 1921. She was an active member of the church until 1975. Mr. Shellman served as deacon for a number of years. Mrs. Shellman was also a member of the Mt. Olive Grand Chapter of Texas and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Texas.

Survivors include three daughters, Loretta Hearne of Anson, Hazel West of Tulsa, Okla., and Louella Hunter of Los Angeles, Calif; three sons, the Rev. J.L. Shellman of Brownfield, A.D., of Plainview and Joel of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Corneda Norman of Los Angles, Calif; 26 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. --The Abilene Reporter-News (Abilene, Texas); Wednesday, 07 Jul 1976; pg. 7-C
