COLLINSVILLE - Funeral services for Bertha M. Light, 100, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 at the Collinsville Church of Christ with Ricky Patterson and Rev. Judith Reedy officiating. Interment will follow in Collinsville Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Light passed away at her home on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1910 in Farmington to Eli Franklin McMahan and Minnie (Fowler) McMahan. She married George Edward Light, Sr. on May 22, 1947 in Denton. She was a school teacher and a homemaker. The students she taught were very important to her. Mrs. Light loved life with her family and friends. She enjoyed bowling, golf (especially Tiger Woods), and traveling. She was a member of the Collinsville Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, George Edward "Chico" Light, Jr. and wife Sally of Collinsville; a daughter, Pam Schad and husband, Tom of Gainesville; grandchildren, Alyssa Harper, Amy Hermes, George Edward Light, III, Ben Light, Jason Helms and Paul Schad; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Banfield of Whitesboro.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eli and Minnie McMahan; her husband, George Edward Light, Sr.; 7 brothers and sisters, George McMahan, Cozette Springfield, Carl McMahan, Marie McMahan, Lewis McMahan, Ruth Hood and Frank McMahan.
Pallbearers are George Edward Light, III, Ben Light, Jason Helms, Paul Schad, Ryan Harper and Scott Hermes.
