Parkersburg, W Va, Dec 10 - Hon A Gilmore Patton, democratic member-elect from Wood county, died at the hospital here last night at 7 o'clock following an illness of several weeks. The illness became acute a few days ago, and for the last two days friends had little hope. The cause of his death was stomach trouble and Brights Disease, with other complications. Mr Patton was elected to the legislature at the recent election by an overwhelming majority to represent the city district. Wood county is a republican county and ex-Sheriff W H Carter, a republican leader of state-wide reputation, was his opponent. Few young lawyers in West Virginia were better known and none stood higher at the bar than he. A Gilmer Patton was born in Union, Monroe county, and was the son of the late Judge James Patton, who was the youngest judge of the supreme court of appeals in the history of West Virginia.
His father was a distinguished jurist and statesman, and a large land-owner in Monroe county, and the Patton estate there has been kept intact. It was one of Mr Patton's pleasures to spend every year his vacation at the old home plantation. Some ten years ago Mr Patton took up the profession of law at Parkersburg, after he had served Monroe county as prosecutor and had gained his earlier experience in the courts there.

Parkersburg, W Va, Dec 10 - Hon A G Patton, former city attorney of Parkersburg, a member elect of the State legislature, and one of the leading lawyers of the city, succumbed to Bright's disease in St Joseph's hospital last night after a long illness. He was thirty-eight years of age and is survived by a wife who was Miss Nina Wallis, a prominent society girl of Clarksburg before her marriage, and a small son. The deceased was a son of the late Judge French Patton, of the supreme court of appeals, of West Virginia, and it is a strange coincidence that both father and son were the same age when death took them. Mrs Patton, spoken of above, is the sister of Mr Foreman Wallis, the popular salesman for the Point Pleasant Grocery Co. Mr Wallis attended the funeral which was one of the largest ever held in Parkersburg.
