Barbara Beck Read was the daughter of Jacob Beck and Anna Maria "Mary" Smith/Schmidt. She married John Matthews Read, Sr. The couple had five children: Jacob, Issac, and John Matthews Read, Jr. and Mary Catherine Allen Kintz (known as Mildred) and Sarah Ann Read Allen. Barbara lived with her youngest daughter Sarah Allen after the death of John Read in 1878. She died at Sarah's home.
