Fannie Marion Darby Bunn, 94, of Asheville, died Monday, March 15, 2010.

Fannie was born March 10, 1916 in Asheville, where she happily lived most of her life. She married Robert Bunn on December 31, 1959 and together they owned Bunn Antiques on Biltmore Avenue for many years. Her husband preceded her in death.

Fannie graduated from Grace High School. She then attended Meredith College before enlisting in the Army to serve her county during WW II. She was a Sergeant in the Women's Army Corps. Fannie proudly served her country. Thanks to the Rotary Club and Bob Dole she was able to visit the World War II monument in Washington D.C. for the Veteran's Day ceremony and celebration in 2009. At wars end, she was honorably discharged and returned to civilian life to complete her college education with her GI Bill. She graduated from Furman University.

Fannie taught school for many years and retired in 1980. She taught at Samarcand Manor (State Home Industrial School for Girls), Leicester Union School, Asheville Orthopedic and Fairview Elementary.

She was a member of the NC Retired Teachers Association, 2nd Chance YMCA, The Preservation Society and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 75 years and a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.

One of her greatest loves was her community garden and her tenant farmers. This gave her great joy.

The graveside service will be held at the Church Yard at Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher.
