Enoch served in the Army of the Confederacy (pvt. 313, Co., K 8th TN. Cavalry) and died during the war in federal prison. Tradition says that he starved to death.

He left a widow, Mary Allen Atnip, and seven children under the age of 10 years old
(information for Bio from Ann Brown's research)

Another source: He was arrested, possibly as a Confederate deserter, in Dekalb County, Tennessee, February 3, 1864, by soldiers serving under Major General G H Thomas. He was transferred to the custody of Captain S E Jones, Provost Marshall General at the Military Prison in Louisville, Kentucky, 'for exchange' where he arrived on February 18. Later, he was transferred from Louisville to Camp Chase on March 6 arriving there on March 11. He died there from chronic diarrhea.

Few researchers claim DOB as 29 DEC 1836

He is the son of Benjamin F Atnip and Jemima Herring Atnip, who have memorials with unknown graves sites.
