THOMPSON, Rudolph L. "Rudy", 90, of St. Petersburg, died Dec. 8, 2010. Born in Wittenberg, WI, he was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Cross. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Winona "Nona"; 3 children, John, Dennis (Jane), and Connie DiLeo; 2 sisters, Louise Lehman and Marjorie Larson; 6 grandchildren, 4 great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, Dec. 18th at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 4545 Chancellor St. NE, St. Petersburg, 33703. Interment with military honors will follow at 10:45 am on Monday, Dec. 20th at Bay Pines National Cemetery. Veterans Funeral Care

WWII service was with the 770th Bomb Squadron, 462nd Bomb Group (The Hellbirds), 58th Bomb Wing, 20th Air Force.

He also received an Air Medal with 3 clusters, and flew as a Flight Engineer on a B-29.
