Rachel was a 1938 graduate of Hamburg High School and a 1939 graduate of Lebanon Business College. She worked as a clerk for the Department of Public Assistance from 1939 to 1940; chief clerk for the Tamaqua Draft Board from 1940 to 1950; and administrative clerk for the Bureau of Mines, Schuylkill Haven, from 1950 until her retirement on Jan. 11, 1980.
Rachel was also the co-owner of the Randall R. Rentschler Inc. electrical and plumbing store in Hamburg from 1953 until 1977. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg, where she was a former member of Church Council. She served as a volunteer in the church office for many years and also served as a representative of St. John's to the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod Assembly many times.
Rachel was a member and corresponding secretary of the former Hamburg Business and Professional Woman's Club. In 1982, she was a recipient of the organization's Woman of the Year Award. Rachel was membership chairperson for the Hamburg Senior Citizens and received a certificate of appreciation and the Senior Citizen of the Year Award for outstanding and dedicated service in 1983. She also received the Virginville Grange Community Citizen Award in 1996.
Rachel is survived by her sister, May L. (Bolich) Bagenstose, Tilden Township; nephew, Earl C. Supplee, and his wife Lisa, Orefield, Pa.; and niece, Susan (Supplee) Morrison, Huntingdon Valley, Pa. She was predeceased by her sister, Sarah B. (Bolich) Supplee.
Services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. from St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg, with the Rev. Willard J. Uhler Jr. officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Township. A viewing will be held in the church Tuesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Leibensperger Funeral Homes Inc., Hamburg, is in charge of the arrangements.
