Robert E. Byers, 63, of York, died unexpectedly of natural causes Dec. 11,2007, Saturday at York Hospital. He was the husband of Cynthia B. (Winkfield) Byers, to whom he was happily married for 30 years.

Born November 27, 1947, in York, a son of the late Erney and Mary (Fortney) Byers.

He was a graduate of William Penn High School, and attended Shippensburg University before transferring to York College, from where he graduated. Mr. Byers was retired from Caterpillar, Inc., and after retirement worked part time at York College. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union, and York College Alumni Association. He was inducted into The Sports Hall of Fame on April 16, 2005, due to his devoted work in the BT Express afterschool program. He was an avid Bearcat fan, and sports enthusiast.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Byers is survived by a son, Robert Webb, of York; two daughters, Alexandria L. Byers of Wilmington, Del., and Jazmin B. Byers of York; three grandchildren, Nicole Webster, Isaiah Webb, and Robert Webb, Jr.; two sisters, Gertrude Brubaker and her husband Robert, and Virginia Orr, and her partner Armando Vazquez, both of York; and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

A private burial will take place at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
