Mr. Mercer died about 3 a.m. Monday in the Callahan County Hospital after a week's serious illness.
He had lived in Putnam for 17 years, moving there from Cottonwood. He was born May 18, 1866, a native Texan.
Mr. Mercer was a member of the Church of Christ and the Woodmen of the World lodge.
Wylie Funeral Home directed burial in the Putnam Cemetery.
Survivors include the widow; four sons, Ernest of Sherman, Elbert of Roseville, Okla., O. P. of Carlton and Curtis of Laird Hill; three daughters, Mrs. Effie Jones of Riverside, Calif., Mrs. Ray Sanders of Breckenridge, and Mrs. E. M. Elrod of Quitman.
Pallbearers were I. G. Mobley, Fred Cook, Ernest Waddell, John D. Isenhower, Earl Rutherford, Alton White.
