Luther M. Latham, 81, of Arab, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at Shepherd's Cove.

Mr. Latham was born March 25, 1929, in Marshall County to Charles F. and Lillian Walley Latham. He was married to Jo Ann Dean Latham for 54 years. She passed away on March 13, 2010.

He graduated from Howard College, now known as Samford University, in 1954 with a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy. He served in the United States Navy as a medic and was stationed in Miami, Fla.

He owned and operated Latham Drugs for over 55 years and also owned two other pharmacies in Arab. He also served Arab as mayor, city commissioner and director of Arab Chamber of Commerce in the 1970s. He was a member of the Arab Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite Zamora Temple Shrine.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Barry and Tina Latham and Gannon and Jennifer Latham of Arab; daughters and sons-in-law: Luanne Latham of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Lorrie Latham-Ellis and Terry Ellis of Arab; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: William and Shirley Dean of Sylacauga; sister and brother-in-law: Jean and James Isbill of Albertville; sister-in-law: Glennavis Latham of Arab; grandchildren: Tyler Hawkins, Benjamin LeCroy, Britney Latham, Eli LeCroy, Chasey Latham, Rochelle Ferguson-Long, Stephanie Ferguson-Fields, Nick Ellis, McKenzie Ellis, Lucas Ellis, Russell Daily and Hunter Daily; and great-grandchildren: Jaiden Long, Jarrett Long and Lillie Anna Ellis.

The funeral was at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at Arab First Baptist church with Dr. Paul Murphy and the Rev. Boyd Bailey officiating. Burial was in Brookwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Benjamin LeCroy, Eli LeCroy, Tyler Hawkins, Steve Latham, Tim Isbill and Nick Ellis.

Honorary pallbearer was Lucas Ellis.
