Mary Ellen Baird Location: Sioux Falls, SD Funeral Home: CHAPEL HILL FUNERAL HOME-OBIT Sioux Falls - Mary Ellen Baird, 90, died on April 17th, at Primrose Retirement Community. Mary Ellen was born July 20, 1918 at Canton, SD to John I. and Mary Ellen (Bixby) Sletten. Graduating from Canton High School, Mary Ellen received a BA degree from Dakota Wesleyan University and a MA from USD. Her teaching career spanned 27 years. Mary Ellen married Clark Baird April 29, 1941. After their retirement, they traveled the US from 1984 -1993 in the "Roving Volunteers in Christ's Service" organization and settled in Smithville, Texas, until 2001 when they moved back to South Dakota. In 2003, they moved to Primrose. Clark preceded Mary Ellen in death on August 21, 2007. A memorial service will be held, Tuesday, April 21st at 1:30 pm at Asbury United Methodist Church, 2425 S. Western Ave., Sioux Falls. Grateful for sharing Mary's life are her children, Ruth (Gordon) Pollard, Maggie (Marvin) Fink, David (Hattie) Baird, Donald (Trudy) Baird, Martha (Lynn) Aasheim, Mary (Allen) Mayer, Elizabeth (Keith) Kirkebak and Dorothy (George) Bos; 27 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Edna (Baird) Johnson of Redfield, SD Memorials may be directed to RVICS and Asbury United Methodist Church.
