Jerome J. Ignowski, 82, of Grand Island died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at V.A. Medical Center, Grand Island.

Jerome was born Jan. 18, 1928, at Ashton to Joseph and Cecilia (Stefanowicz) Ignowski.

Survivors are: daughter, Betty Price of Grand Island; sons, Gary Ignowski, Merlin Ignowski, Michael Ignowski, Christopher Ignowski, all of Grand Island, Joseph Ignowski of Alda; and a host of friends and relatives.

Jerome received his education in Ashton, graduating from Ashton High School.

He entered the United States Navy, March 23, 1945, serving during World War II and received his honorable discharge March 23, 1946.

He returned to Ashton where he began his career working heavy construction. His work took him all over the United States building locks, dams and power plants.

Jerome was united in marriage to Viola B. (Griffin) Ignowski, May 28, 1949.

The couple made their home in Grand Island.

Viola died Jan. 18, 1996.

Jerome was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, VFW Post 2543 of Plattsmouth.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
