Sheldon R. "Blackie" Black, 66, of rural Tower Hill died Friday, Apr. 16, 2010 in his residence.
He was born Sept. 12, 1943 in Effingham, the son of Cecil O. and Frieda Julius Black. A graduate of Assumption High School, he lived in Assumption and Tower Hill areas his lifetime. He married Gennell C. Sims on Dec. 23, 1961 in Pana. He was a wonderful father and husband and his family was very important to him. He enjoyed camping, canoeing, collecting knives and spending time with family and friends. He was a cement mason by trade later becoming construction superintendent. He had worked for Caldwell Engineering in Jacksonville and McCartny Bros. Construction, St. Louis. He was a CAD operator. Sheldon was a member of Pana Lodge #226 AF& AM; and past member of Shelbyville Moose club.

He was preceded in death by his father and by a son, Ricky Lee Black on June 18,1980.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, Apr. 20, in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana, with Masonic Rites by Pana Lodge #226 followed by a funeral service. Visitation is Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until time of service. Private family interment will be at a later date,
Memorials may be made to Pana Community Hospital Foundation for Quad County Hospice or Shelby County Humane Society.
