Carl Harry Moore, 92, died Dec. 13, 2010, surrounded by his family.
He was born May 1, 1918, in Hardin County to Harry Wilson and Elda Amanda Ford Moore, who preceded him in death. On July 25, 1939, he married Lillian Louise Gossard, who died March 4, 2007.
Mr. Moore was an honest man who believed in hard work. He could fix anything, making it last forever. He had been a dairy farmer and farmed more than 400 acres. He and his wife built their home in May 1960 on land that originally belonged to his great-grandparents, John and Dianah Prouse Goslee. He worked at Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant from 1959 to 1978, sold Patrons Mutual Insurance, and was a photographer and member of the Camera Club, Bellefontaine. He photographed hundreds of weddings and special events. He was a member of the Hardin County Restorers and Collectors. He enjoyed camping, boating and cranking out his famous homemade ice cream. He loved the Lord Jesus and enjoyed reading his Bible. His words of wisdom to family and friends were, "Stay the course, keep the faith." He was a 43-year member of Lima Baptist Temple, where he was a member of its master builders class and served as an usher and deacon. He enjoyed old hymns and fellowship with people. He and his wife compiled a 4,000-piece pictorial history of their church. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. He has now gone to be with the Lord.
Survivors include four children, Roger (Kaye) Moore, of California, Betty Cognion, of Lima, David (Caryl) Moore, of Tennessee, and Janet (Pastor Marion Jr.) Spencer, of Harrod; 11 grandchildren, Kendra, Karen, Molly, Susan, Joy, Jaymie, Jodi, Jerilyn, Jenny, Amanda and Andrew Carl Spencer; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Moore, of Bellefontaine; a sister-in-law, Vera Jean (David) Andrews, of Kansas; a brother-in-law, Bill Lawrence, of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence W. Moore; a sister, Dorothy J. Deringer; and a son-in-law, James J. Cognion.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Lima Baptist Temple. Pastor Ronald B. Cannon and Pastor James Neighbors will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Roundhead.
