Wife of Thomas Brooks

Mrs. Mary A. Brooks Dead.

Mrs. Mary Akers Brooks died at her home a few miles north of this place Saturday evening, May 28th, at the ripe old age of 78 years, 8 months and three days. Death was caused from dropsy, from which disease she had suffered for a long time. Funeral services were held at her home at 11 o'clock Sunday morning, May 29, and were conducted by Rev. Starks. Interment was made in the Linnville cemetary.

Mary Akers was born September 25, 1887, in Bacon county, Tennessee and with her parents removed to Jasper County, Missouri in 1858. May 17, 1857 she was united in marriage to Thomas Brooks and to this union eight children were born, two dying in childhood.

The remaining six children are all married and live in this county and with the exception of Mrs. Sarah Clarke, who arrived too late, they were all at the bedside of their mother when the end came. Mrs. Olmstead, one of the daughters, was constantly at the side of her be loved mother and tenderly cared for her during her illness.

Mrs. Brooks united with the Methodist church in 1855, and during all these many years was a faithful and constant worker in the church and lived a Christian life.

Mr. and Mrs. Brooks moved to Kansas in 1862, and have since made this state their home. During their long residence in this community they made many friends, who extend tender sympathy to the bereaved father and children.
