Ross William Stephenson, 87, of Clear Lake, died December 5, 2000, at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. Funeral services at the Regular Baptist Church in Clear Lake, Pastor Steven Cox officiating, burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 18 West, Mason City.

Ross Stephenson was born on April 21, 1913, in Audubon County, the son of Avery and Jennie (Whited) Stephenson. He received his education in the Adair County system. He married Leora Christensen on February 9, 1937, in Guthrie Center.

After their marriage, he farmed in Spencer for a short time. At the time of their marriage they lived in Anita, then moved to Greenfield where they farmed until 1966, then moved to Hampton, to Oskaloosa in 1981, and Clear Lake in 1985.

Ross worked for Arbie Mineral Feed Co., located in Marshalltown, Iowa, while living in Hampton. He achieved top sales award every year over a nine-year span. In 1972, he received the top sales representative award for Iowa, which was presented to Ross by Drake University Coach Morey John.

He enjoyed woodworking and fishing, especially the annual Arbie Feeds fishing trips to the Lake of the Woods. Other interests included gardening, and playing softball as a teenager. He like square dancing, was an Iowa Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed watching sports. He had a great sense of humor.

He loved his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the Regular Baptist Church in Clear Lake, a past 4-H club leader, served on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 20 years, and on the Farm Service Board for 10 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Connie Lea Ditchfield and husband William, of Memphis, Tennessee, and Mrs. Colleen Kay Tyler of Clear Lake, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also two half brothers Max Stephenson of Anita and Rex Stephenson of Adair and two half sisters Marie Lents of Fontanelle and Betty Griffith of Grand Junction.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leora, granddaughter Peyton Read, two brothers Earl Stephenson and Cecil Stephenson, and one sister.
