HAMPTON - Nellie Thompson Amory, 95, died peacefully in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth, Aug. 24, 2007. Nellie was born in Phoebus, Va., Sept. 16, 1911. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Violet Mae Thompson and her husband of 60 years, Dr. Harold I. Amory, formerly of Hampton.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Amory Chappelear and husband George Herbert of Stevensville, Md.; a son, George Amory and wife Alice of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Scott Chappelear and wife Mary of Annapolis, Md., Lynn Chappelear and husband Hunter Blum of Santa Monica, Calif., Michael Chappelear of Villanueva, N.M., David Amory of Portsmouth and Michelle Amory of Annapolis; six great-grandchildren, Christopher Chappelear, Nicholas Chappelear, Michael Amory, Kendal Blum, Kara Blum and Alexandra Amory; and a large extended family which includes her sister, Violet Thompson Hurst.
The family would like to offer its appreciation to the staff of Bon Secours Maryview Nursing Care Center for their loving care and support over the past five years that Nellie resided there.
A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Faith Lutheran Church, Suffolk, by Pastor Scott Benson. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News. The family will receive friends in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Suffolk, Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
