"GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Sept. 19 (AP)—Dr. Ferris N. Smith, a plastic surgeon, died last night after an illness of several weeks. He was 73 years old. His wife, Mrs. Florence Bannister Smith, died two weeks ago. Dr. Smith was born in Pontiac, Mich. His father, Samuel W. Smith, was a Republican member of Congress from Michigan from 1897 to 1915. In 1908 Dr. Smith received an AB degree from the University of Michigan. After his medical graduation he did postgraduate work in Berlin and Vienna. He began to practice in 1910 in Ann Arbor, Mich., and three years later he moved to Grand Rapids. A former captain in the Royal Medical Corps of Britain, Dr. Smith did facial plastic surgery at Queen's Hospital, London, during World War I."
