Rev. Robert E. Adcock, age 83 of Greenville, passed away at 4:39 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008 at Greenville Regional Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home with Larry Shelton and Darryl Bolen officiating. Interment will follow in Montrose Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion, and V.F.W.

The family will receive friends at Donnell-Wiegand from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday. Masonic Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening by Greenville Masonic Lodge 245 aA.F. & A.M. For those who desire memorials may be made to the Bond County Senior Citizen's Center.

Robert Eugene Adcock, the son of Marvel Martin Adcock and Geneva Leona Reddick Adcock, was born on August 18, 1924 in Greenville. He grew up here and attended Central School and Greenville High School. Bob answered his countries call by joining the Army on April 29, 1943 at Camp Grant and rose to the rank of S Sgt. He served overseas and was in battles including Naples Foggia, Rome, Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater with 1 silver Battle Star and Bronze Service Arrowhead, 4 overseas Service Bars, and the Good conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 24, 1945 at Fort Sheridan. He returned to Greenville where he was a cement finisher out of Cement Finishers Local # 90 of Alton. He served as Greenville Mayor from 1968 until 1971. He was called into the Ministry in the Southern Baptist Church and pastored churches including Pocahontas, Smithboro, Shobonier Bloom Baptist Church near Flora and Marshall Creek Church near Salem. Bob made two missionary trips to St. Kits Island where he preached and helped build the Church there. He and his wife owned and operated several businesses in Bond, Clinton, Marion and Clay Counties.

Robert and Maysel F. Cook were united in marriage on August 18, 1946 at the brides home in Greenville and have enjoyed over 61 years together and she survives as do their children: Terry L. (Gay) Adcock of Greenville, Vicki Jeanne Tice of Denver, Brenda K., Mrs. Ron Limer of Greenbrier, Ark, and Sandra K. Lake of Salem, IL, 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his brother Marvel (Maida) Adcock of Greenville, and two sisters Joycelyn Meyers of Greenville and Elmira Puls of north of Greenville. Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his brother William Adcock.

Bob is a 50 year member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge 245 A.F. & A.M., where he was a past Master and a 32 degree member, a member of Cement Finishers Labor Local # 90, and a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church of Salem, IL.
