John Foster was the first child and son born to James Foster and Mehitable (Atwood) Foster. He was born March 8, 1770 in Pelham, N.H He was married to Hannah Piper of Dracut, Massachusetts on Jan 28, 1802 in Dracut, Massachusetts. Hannah was born in 1781.

To John and Hannah were born the following Children:
i. David
ii. Samuel
iii. Hannah
iv. Achsah
v. Alfreda
vi. Jesse
vii. James
viii. John
ix. Rebecca
x. Joshua
xi. Betsy W.
xii. Paul

John and his family moved, around 1814, from Rumney, (N.H.) where they lived on the so called Thompson Farm, to Wentworth onto the farm later to be owned Ben B. Foster. Here John farmed and lived until his death. The farm has remained in the Foster name to the present time (2005).

Only those children of John in this family are followed in this research. John died March 26, 1853, at the age of 83; Hannah, wife of John died Dec. 6, 1856, and both are buried in the Foster Cemetery in Wentworth, N.H.

In the 1850 census in Wentworth, John was age 80 and Hannah was 68, born in Massachusetts. In the household with them was Joshua age 32. Next door was John Foster Jr. age 39 and family. John Sr. was a farmer as was Joshua and John Jr.
