Name: There were no birth certificates in rural Georgia at the time of Fannylu's home birth, but the 1920 census lists her as "Fannylu." She adopted "Frances Louise" when after her husband's death she began working for the State of Alabama. Faced with her first daughter-in-law and the prospect of grandchildren, she asked to be called "Vicky," the name she had been given by an admirer many years earlier. Eventually all of her children and grandchildren came to use the name.
Children: Arthur and Fannylu had four sons. Widowed at age 42, Fannylu also had the sad experience of outliving all of her children. Arthur Junior and Francis had inherited PKD from their father. John Morgan had childhood onset (Type 1) diabetes. Only Horace was free of a deadly genetic disorder, but when he died in 1988 it was as if her last connection to life had ended. She passed away at 96 years of age of no specific illness.
Character: Vicky had a vivid personality, made pricklier by the challenges she had experienced in her life. Although she has been dead for many years, she lives on in the stories that survive among her descendants--a true immortality.
