Retired from General Electric Euclid Lamp Works

Ada Mae Fowler, 87, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Alterra Claire Bridge of Winston-Salem.

Mrs. Fowler was retired from General Electric Euclid Lamp Works in Cleveland, Ohio, where she worked for 30 years. She was a part-time volunteer at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for 10 years. As a devoted Christian and member of Calvary Baptist Church, she served as a secretary of her Bible study class and joyfully participated in the senior adult choir. She also eagerly served in the dining hall on Wednesday nights for several years.

She was born Sept. 24, 1917, to Robert Vonney and Roberta Harris Mullinax in Glendale, S.C. Growing up in Gaffney, she married Manning El Fowler in 1939 who preceded her in death in 1970. She also was preceded in death by her siblings, Marshall, Ebert, Lonnie, Laura Scruggs and Norene Horne.

She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Houck of Clemmons and ex-husband and special friend whom she adored, Jim Houck of Clemmons; two grandchildren, Patti and husband Tony of Pfafftown and Dennis J. Houck of Clemmons; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Lori and Tyler, all of Pfafftown; her sister, Juanita Stroupe of Brookview Healthcare of Gaffney; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Gaffney, conducted by the Rev. Carl V. Mullinax.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

The family extends a special thanks to the faithful workers at Alterra, Wanda Mathews of Hospice whose singing and tender care Mom greatly enjoyed. Thanks also to Dr. Edward Hill and staff and those who visited her during her illness over the years.
