Adeline Fretwell, 84, formerly of Canton, died Saturday, July 21, 2001 at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk. The daughter of Mahlon and Ethel Sublett Ham, was born in Lewis, Co., near Dover, Dec. 17, 1916. She married Roby Fretwell on August 18, 1935. To this wunion three sons were born, Cecil of Waterloo, Iowa; Robert of Front Royal, Virginia; and Richard of Mission Viejo, Calif. The survive. Other survivors include one sister, Velma R. Childress of Farmington Hills, Michigan, eight granddaughters; one grandson; four great granddaughters; one great grandson; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Margaret Fretwell and Elizabeth Tucker and one brother, Ray Ham. Fretwell taught school for several years in both Iowa and Missouri. She was at the Durant Elementary School, Durant, Iowa, from 1967 until her retirement in 1980. She was an accomplished needle woman making fur bears, quilting, and pillow slip dolls. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton, Purity Chapter for the Order of Eastern Star in Wilton, Iowa, and a life member of N.E.A. and R.T.A.M. Visitation was held Tuesday, July 24, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with family present after 6:00 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Canton.
