Joseph Matthews Succumbs At 86.
Joseph Carey Matthews, 86, of Goldsboro, the father of Frank E. Matthews of 405 Aberdeen Ter., died at 2:30 p. m. yesterday at home, where he had been a patient since September.
A former contractor, he had retired almost 30 years ago.
Other survivors include a brother, A. D. Matthews of Durham; four sisters, Mrs. D. T. Sasser and Miss Bertha and Miss Mattie Mathews, all of Durham, and Mrs. S. P. Wilson of Raleigh.
The funeral will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday in the Seymour Funeral Home at Goldsboro, Dr. Gilbert Cross, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, will officiate. Burial will be in Willowdale Cemetery. The body was moved to Goldsboro last night.
