Fred P. Guerry, Jr., 90, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at his residence after an illness.
Mr. Guerry was born August 24, 1916 in Kingstree, a son of the late Fred P. Guerry, Sr. and Kate Ilderton Guerry.
He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and Clemson College, class of 1939. He was an agriculture teacher, a farmer and merchant. Mr. Guerry was a life member of Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher and held many offices of the Church.
Mr. Guerry served in WWII as a Captain in the 82nd and 17th Army Airborne divisions, and served in Germany in the Battle of the Bulge as an intelligence officer, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a golf enthusiast and was President Emeritus of the Pee Dee Senior Golf Association and was a member of the Andrews and Kingstree Golf Clubs.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Anna "Dot" Ulmer of Kingstree, formerly of Eloree, S.C.; niece, Monice M. Smith of Charleston and nephews, Joe B. Felton and James E. Felton, both of Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday in the Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home.
