She was born in El Paso, TX on March 9, 1954 to Edward Willis McGee and Mary Barnett McGee.
A much-loved mother, "Mema," and friend, she is survived by her children Rett & Jennifer Gibbs of The Colony; Candie Gibbs Mendez & Marshall Mendez of Dallas; and Rodney Gibbs of Arlington. She also leaves behind grandchildren Tim Gibbs, Samantha Mendez, Jarrett Gibbs, Ethan Gibbs, Mary-Lynn Gibbs, and Trisha Rich, all of The Colony; and Piper Gibbs and Aidon Gibbs of Amarillo; her sister, Janice McGee Alderman of North Carolina; her father, Edward McGee of Athens, and many cherished friends.
Jo Ann lived a full, varied life that included many career changes. From hair stylist, to nurse, to working in an insurance office, she did whatever she could as an independent-minded single mom to raise her family without help from anyone else. Most recently, she worked as a security guard with Pinkerton Security Services. She enjoyed reading & writing devotional books & poems; she was gifted in the art of cross-stitch, and she loved Southern Gospel music. In her own words: "My desire is to be a testimony and to live out each day in a way that glorifies and honors my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."
Interment will be Monday, December 20, 2010 at 10:00am at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens, TX with a memorial service to follow at 3:00pm at First Baptist Church of The Colony.
