BONAIRE – Dr. William Augustus Bootle, Jr., 78, died in the early morning of Friday, December 17, 2010 at Coliseum Medical Center, Macon.

A native of Macon, Dr. Bootle resided at the time of his death with his wife, Brenda Gloss Bootle, in Bonaire. The son of the late Judge W. A. Bootle and Virginia Childs Bootle and known as "Gus" to his friends, Dr. Bootle was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Joseph Clisby Grammar School and Lanier High School where he was a Captain in the ROTC. He attended Emory University and Mercer University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, receiving his undergraduate degree from Mercer and his medical degree from Tulane University.

During his career, Dr. Bootle practiced internal medicine and radiology in Macon and more recently practiced radiology in Warner Robins. At the time of his death, he taught radiology on a part time basis at the Mercer University School of Medicine. Dr. Bootle was a member of the American Medical Association, Houston Medical Association and the American College of Radiology.

In addition to his wife, Brenda, he is survived by his son, William Augustus Bootle, III of Colorado Springs, CO; his daughter, Elizabeth Bootle Herp and her husband, Dan and their son, Mason of Oakland, CA; his stepson, David Butler of St. Simons Island and his son, Zeke Fahs; his stepson, Robert Butler and his wife, Stephanie and their children, Caroline, Davis and Henry of Alpharetta; his sister, Ann Bootle Hall and her husband, Ellsworth III of Macon and their children and grandchildren, Virginia Childs Hall and Ellsworth Hall IV; his brother, James Childs Bootle and his wife Betsy of Atlanta and their children and grandchildren.
