Gertrude Goldie Savage, 100, died on Dec. 13, 2010 in Edmond, Okla. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Perkins, with a graveside service to follow at 3 p.m. in the Perkins Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude was born in Merrick, Okla., on Dec. 20, 1909 to Frank and Terissia (Sauer) Cooper.

On Sept. 16, 1930, Gertrude married Jeff Savage at the First Baptist Church in Kingfisher, Okla. Several days following their marriage, they left for their first home at Coon Rapids, Iowa. While there, their first son was born. In December, they returned to Oklahoma, where they rented a farm near Perkins. In October, 1934, their next son was born and then they moved to Perkins in 1943. They lived in Perkins for 35 years where he was a farmer, mail carrier and plumber before moving to Wichita, Kan., in 1959 for 14 years. They then retired to Stillwater in 1973.

Gertrude and Jeff were very active in volunteer work with many hours given to the Stillwater Medical Center, the Senior Citizens Center and the Nutrition Site. Gertrude also taught physical education at the Stillwater Senior Citizens Center and at church camps, until she was 88 years old.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sister and one brother.

She is survived by her sons Bill Savage of Sherman, Texas, and LeRoy Savage and wife Marie of Edmond, Okla. She is also survived by five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
