C.M.L. Andrus was the 4th son and 7th child of Jason and Anna Whitlock Andrus. He learned the trade of tanner and currier, and graduated a good workman at his majority. He continued some three years as a journeyman, when he went west seeking his fortune. He brought up at Macedon, Wayne County, New York, in September, 1833, where his brother Miles Hollister Andrews/
Andrus then lived, and found him in feeble health, on whose account he was persuaded to set up his business there while his brother lived, which was but a brief period - December 20, of the same year. He continued his business there for 12 1/2 years.
He married Leah Mallory on 15 September 1836. In 1846 they moved to the vicinity of Somerset in Hillsdale County, Michigan where he set up as a farmer. Leah passed away in 1849 shortly after their last child, Sylvia Leah, who was only 6 months old also passed away. He did not remarry.
He said the office of Lieutenant in Military, and Justice in civil life, satisfied his ambition. He furnished much of the history of his father's family for the "Andrews Memorial" and was greatly interested in the genealogy.
