John Beverly Goode Sr., 83, of Scottsville, died Saturday, December 18, 2010, at a local hospital.

Born June 23, 1927 in Esmont, he was the son of the late Thomas Alfred Goode and Hester Hennings Hackett Goode.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ella Goode; a grandson, Michael Goode; two sisters, Estelle Hensley and Fannie Dowell; and a brother, Thomas Goode.

John was an Army Veteran of World War II. He enjoyed life and his family and never met a stranger.

Surviving him are three daughters, Phyllis Preyer and her husband, Bob, of Johnson City, Tennessee, Janet Brown of Charlottesville and Virginia Lawhorne and her husband, Bruce, of Wanchese, North Carolina; four sons, John Goode and his wife, Sharon, of Culpeper, Toby Goode and his wife, Joan, of Charlottesville, Hunter Goode and his wife, Teresa, of Afton, and William Goode and his wife, Patricia, of Scottsville; 14 grandchildren, Justin Preyer and his wife, Amanda, Kirsten Swindall and her husband, John, Beverley Adams and her husband, Mark, Jessica Tyree and her husband, Jeff, Charles Benz and his wife, Kelly, Thomas Benz and his wife, Stephanie, Steve Goode and his wife, Emily, Scott Goode, Katharine Goode, David Goode, Amy O'Neal and her husband, Brian, Sheri Goode and her companion, Adam, John Goode and his wife, Nicole, and Quinton Good; 21 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Annie Zimmerman of Charlottesville, Maryellen Fewell and her husband, Brock, of Fluvanna County, Daisy Sampson of Charlottesville, and Joyce Jones of Earlysville; and one brother, Joseph Goode and his wife, Anne, of Charlottesville.

The family thanks all the staff at The Univeristy of Virginia Medical Center with special thanks to Dr. Becker, Dr. Lipson, and Jessica on the fourth floor, East in Intensive Care Unit.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home with the Reverend Robert Mansfield officiating.

Interment will follow at the Holly Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2010, at the Funeral Home.
